Farewell Fear

Finally, here I am, sitting down at my desk and I want to freeze time whilst I have a small window of self-confidence to write my first piece. I’ve always wanted to write but have never had the time to write or perhaps I didn’t have the confidence to do so. Yes, I was a coward. Thoughts such as; bad reviews or nasty comments kept running through my mind; in short, fear. My inner voice gently repeated in my head “You’ve never been good enough”. Well, I bet all of us do so at certain times and so I asked myself – how does a lawyer become a lawyer? Was he born a lawyer? Or did he make the effort to learn to be one?

This is my first experience of writing and it feels like I can succeed at anything now, but knowledge and information is needed together with passion and interest. In the article written by Patricia Rowe Willrich, she quoted Anne Tyler, “If we wait till we feel like writing, we might never write at all”. So, with the encouragement of my aunt, I began reading books of different genres to teach myself on different styles and perspectives of writers.

Frankly speaking, it was one of my 2014 Resolutions to start writing! Time was never my best friend. All Time has ever said to me was ‘I’ll keep running’ or ‘I’m not sure if you’ll keep up’. Well, it is already the month of November and I’m still hesitating on completing ONE of my resolutions. But oh well, I have to say, how can you go up a ladder without taking the first step? It took a “Write Now!” statement on one of the many blogs I read, to get me moving. So, this is my first time writing and by God’s grace, may this be one of many to come.

I have learnt several lessons while preparing this very first article such as – never let fear keep you from embarking on your dream or you would never know unless you try. In Daven Hiskey’s article, I found Theodore Roosevelt’s quote, “It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed”. Learning from your mistake is always the best way to learn. This goes out to all of you who are still hesitating on starting something (I mean something good), go ahead! Take the first step, let Him do the rest.

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.
